PT Smelting Plant Expansion Inauguration Event

The President of the Republic of Indonesia Joko Widodo (Jokowi) inaugurated PT Smelting Expansion on December 14, 2023 in Gresik, East Java. This event also attended by the Minister of State-Owned Enterprise, the Minister of Public Works, Governor of East Java, President of Mitsubishi Material, President of Freeport McMoRan, and other officials. Through this expansion, the processing capacity of the Smelter become 1.3 million tons/ year of copper concentrate. 

PT Smelting is the first copper smelter and refinery in Indonesia, owned by PT Freeport Indonesia and Mitsubishi Material Corporation (MMC). Product of PT Smelting cooper processing namely copper cathode, sulfuric acid, anode slime, copper slag, gypsum, and copper telluride.

As part of PT. Smelting expansion, the EPC work of New Acid Plant (NAP) which have capacity of 1,350 TPD is performed by PT Inti Karya Persada Tehnik (IKPT) as main contractor. Mechanical completion of the project is achieved on November 7, 2023 with zero LTA (Lost Time Accident). This New Acid Plant is the second of PT Smelting’s Acid Plant performed by IKPT. Previously, IKPT together with a Japanese Corporation also performed the EPC work for the first PT Smelting’s Acid Plant with capacity of 2,280 TPD in 1996.
