MRT Jakarta – Opening Ceremony
The MRT Jakarta Project was completed and the opening ceremony was held on Sunday, March 24th, 2019. In addition to the President of Indonesia, Mr. Joko Widodo (also known as Jokowi), the event was attended by many of the officials, including the Governor of Jakarta Mr. Anies Baswedan, the Japan Ambassador to Indonesia, Mr. H.E Ishii Masafumi, Deputy Minister of Japan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs Mr. Sugawara and JICA official Mr. Yashushi Tanaka. The opening ceremony was also inviting the participation of Japanese consultants and contractor VIPs. At the ceremony, the President declared that the opening of MRT Phase 1 is the beginning of a new era for the country and announced that it will be followed by the groundbreaking ceremony for Phase 2 Project, which is scheduled to start next year.
The Chairman of TOYO, Mr. Masaaki Yamaguchi, accompanied by Director of TOYO’s Infrastructure Business Unit Mr. Shinichi Okazaki, as well as IKPT’s President Director Mr. Yasuhiro Hime and IKPT’s Director, Mr. I Made Sutama also witnessing the big event. This official opening ceremony has been long awaited by the Jakarta citizens, and tens of thousands of people occupied the BHI (Bundaran Hotel Indonesia) area.

I have encountered many difficulties in the project, but I sincerely thank you for the successful opening ceremony of MRT Jakarta with the guidance and support from the entire company.
Going forward, we will continue to work in a state where we do not feel at ease, such as related to the remaining work. However, we will make efforts to complete this early and successfully.

The day before the opening ceremony, I made a trial ride with a lot of ordinary citizens who received the lottery. Inside the car was full of young and old men and women, and also children. All the people were smiling with big face. I was particularly impressed by the smiles of the children. I think this is the first time that TOYO group has a project that has a direct response from the public. True manifestation of “Your Success, Our Pride”. Overcoming many difficulties, I respect the efforts of TOYO/IKPT who finished the historical project for Indonesia.
