Blawan Ijen Geothermal Power Plant Successfully Commenced the Commercial Operation

PT Medco Cahaya Geothermal (MCG), a subsidiary of PT Medco Power Indonesia (Medco Power), has successfully commenced the commercial operation of the Ijen Geothermal Power Plant (GPP) in East Java on February 7, 2025.
The Ijen GPP is the first geothermal power generation facility in East Java province and will be developed with a total planned capacity of 110 MW. The first-phase of this Ijen GPP operation will supply 35 MW to the Java power grid and is expected to provide electricity to around 85,000 households in the Java-Bali system. In this project, PT Inti Karya Persada Tehnik (IKPT), together with the consortium partner PT Multi Fabrindo Gemilang (MFG) as the contractor of this project, are pleased that we can complete the project successfully with zero-accident.
The Ijen GPP is the second Medco Power’s geothermal facility, following Sarulla in North Sumatra. The Director of Medco Power, Eka Satria, in the event ceremony said that the successful development of Ijen GPP is a testament of Medco Power’s capability in harnessing Indonesia’s geothermal resources using cutting-edge technology. IKPT extends our gratitude to MCG and Medco Power for the trust and cooperation in the execution of this vital project and looking forward to continuing the collaboration in the sustainable energy solutions for Indonesia.
