As an expression of concern to the
catastrophe in Aceh and North Sumatra,
IKPT gave aid in the form of a Bridge
Frame structure type B-50 with a width
of 7 meter, length 50 meter and weight
of 115 ton. The bridge was given the
name "Bailey".The Bridge was produced by
Krakatau Engineering and CHC in Cilegon.
The Bridge value was Rp. 1,7 milliard
and it was given to the people of Aceh
through the assistance of Indonesian
National Army (Tentara Nasional
Indonesia – TNI). The bridge had the
purpose of reconnecting land
transportation between Banda Aceh and
Meulaboh, on the west coast of Nanggroe
Aceh Darussalam Province. This location
took the worst blows of the tsunami and
the earthquake.
Symbolically the ceremony of handing
over the bridge from IKPT to the TNI was
conducted at the port of Merak - Cilegon
on Wednesday, tgl. 9 March 2005, at
17.30, directly in front of KM ship
mouth of Kendari Lino. IKPT was
represented by Gatot Subandono
(Expediting Dept. Head form Procurement
Div.) to hand over to TNI represented by
Commander of Brigif-1 South Jakarta
Major Sumartono who was in charge of
loading the bridge in to the ship and
delivering to it Aceh.
The ceremony was also witnessed by
functionaries of TNI among others Dandim
Cilegon Letkol Tedi, Major Danlanal
Merak Desmon, Danramil Merak and
representatives of Puspen Mabes TNI.
For delivery and easy transportation the
bridges were dismantled and loaded into.
The trailers were loaded into KM of
Kendari Lino of Dock of IV Port of Merak
and sail to Port of Malahayati in Banda
Aceh.
